Tulum is beautiful. We went from Puerto Morelos, and our tour guide was specifically from PM so that won't help you. Tulum is closer to the hotel zone than Chichen Itza. On another note-have stayed at RPLA and really liked it. I would suggest a trip to Isla Mujeres while you are there! Report inappropriate content.

Not only is that a nice place to grab a meal but there's a cenote right in the city you can visit. It's very colonial and much more "true" Mexico than Cancun.
