The Custom's bridge bucker is wired to a push pull pot that puts the pickup in parallel rather than series. I end up using the parallel bridge pickup a LOT. The difference of real single coil and humbucker + EQ is quite apparent, but the answer to the final question - is just one type of pickups/guitar is sufficient is quite personal choice, though. What you are trying to do is to compensate for differences single coil vs humbucker by tweaking your EQ.

I like the Tim best, and the V3 second best-it's smoother in high gain mode and pretty spot on to the original in low gain mode. The MXR sounded the same, but not quite as smooth or as flexible.
