Im not really sure what the issue is here. Anyone could get proficiency with thieves tools and/or sleight of hands in table top 5e. Its the expertise reliant talent and stacking dex that made rogues really consistently great at it. Im not sure how that changes in BG3. I click on "Use" for the thieves tools and that takes his action and then he can't actually unlock the door. I am sure I am missing something very obvious. I just worked it out myself... dammit xD you right click the thing you want to pick open and click the lockpick option in combat. I never even knew you could "use" the thieves' tools.it does roll slight of hand skill, having more makes the checks faster and more likely to succeed you cant infinitely do lockpick checks because eveytime you fail you consume a kit. I just realized important thing. So it seems that game will use proficiencies for tools as well ! I guess it's just not implemented. Proficiency means you get +2 to your roll with the tools, then sleight of hand would add more so e.g. +5 if you were proficient with sleight of hand, So that would be a "roll with +7" against "Unknown AC".
