Jul 17, 2020 · 2012 CRV EX 100K rattling noise going over small bumps. I bought this v 2 years old Honda certified used with 13,000 mi on it. I have given it another 85k or so hard earned miles. Fast driving on highway and country roads in New York City and the surrounding suburban and rural up areas. Lots of bumpy roads. A common cause on every vehicle is worn exhaust suspenders and/or non-OEM exhaust parts that aren't fitted properly. Honda OEM exhaust suspenders are heavy rubber loops that connect between hooks on the exhaust and welded hooks on the body. Less common is only on AWD versions where the bushings between the rear differential and body are worn out.The noise on the rear sounds like a drone or humming with a cyclical pattern at speeds above 40 mph. It changes with speed but braking, turning, accelerating has no effect. There is no squealing or growling noise, just humming. It is faint, just about hear it and it comes and goes, nothing to do with going over bumps, its more when Im driving slow, under 30mph.
