And if you haven't performed a full reset and minimal/manual configuration of the new firmware (after you flash it), you haven't fully tested it.

However, I think there is some information that has been overlooked in previous replies. The two routers differ in their 2.4Ghz networking - the AX86U is 3x3 and therefore can support 3 concurrent spatial streams, whereas the AX88U is 4x4 and therefore supports 4 concurrent spatial streams.
