The issue is that vans are wider than docs so your width affects sizing in docs. For example, I wear a 10 men's in vans, I can fit a 9.5 but they are reallllly snug. Of my 25+ pairs of docs, in general I am a 10 width wise (I got wide feet and a tall arch) and a 9 length wise because they run big.
