Almost every car engine, going way back, will start at a high RPM and slowly drop as it warms up. 500 to 800 is typical for most car engines and will vary from engine to engine. The idle on the Kia Soul is controlled by the ECC, not a set screw as on the old NA engines of the past. It is what it is.
