I've had two motors in this truck, the first gave me about 12 l/100km... (19mpg?) the new motor is burning about 23 l/100km... (about 10mpg).I am getting 10-11mpg from a 355 SBC, turbo 400, 4:10's, 33" . The 3 speed tranny is what is killing the mpg. I figure 15mpg if I went to a 700R4, or 4L60E. Of course that is if I drive like I own it, instead of like I stole it. … I made a custom adapter plate to mate the OM617 to the r150f Toyota transmission. I re drilled the Toyota flywheel to fit the Mercedes crankshaft as well as machined a custom pilot bearing adapter. I just finished the engine build and am working on hooking everything back up. High EGT on a diesel is a result of too little air not too much. Actually it's from too much air+fuel combined, and/or high intake air temps (no intercooler and/or excessive boost pressure). I usually count on 32mpg for highway only. The manual transmaission makes all the difference for the 240D.
