John deere 318 no spark.

My 318 was running fine until I shut it off the other day and then when I tried to start it again, no spark to plugs. What happened? I checked the coil and it seems to have good resistance. Are there points on this Onan "P" series or is it electronic? (1988, 318 model). Wires also look fine, any suggestions on trouble shooting.Take a small screwdriver and open and close the points manually with the key on, should get spark, if not, clean or replace the points they are a PITA to get in there, especially if you have big hands.
