When mycelium is cultured in just grain, the mycelium turns into a mass with little air space. But when grown with vermiculite, the mycelial threads stretch across space. The Uncle Bens Tek, as it's now called, can work and sometimes does. It's just that the likelihood of success (20-25% or less) is far lower than other tried and true methods.
